Bad Schandau is an old-established spa resort in Saxon Switzerland. Its spa facilities adhere to the naturopathic principles developed by Sebastian Kneipp, the father of hydrotherapy, and were built during his lifetime.

If you're looking for a first-class holiday to boost your health, you'll find a selection of superb clinics on the banks of the Elbe in Bad Schandau, which treat a range of complaints and complement the local spa facilities. The spa gardens have a charming atmosphere and contain some of the original trees dating back to 1873. As well as beautiful and therapeutic natural scenery, Bad Schandau can boast a parade of mini architectural gems. In 1903, the hotelier Rudolf Sendig had these magnificent, country-house-style wooden villas built upon a picturesque plateau together with scenic promenades. The houses in this 'villa district' were built using the most modern methods of the day and equipped with electricity and running water. They are still much admired for their elegance.

Another highlight in Bad Schandau is the Toskana Therme, a thermal pool complex offering a variety of health and spa treatments. For pure unadulterated relaxation, take a dip in the saline pool, whose high salt concentration is great for unwinding or for de-stressing after a busy day. The 'Liquid Sound' experience, which pipes in music to the pool through special speakers and projects patterns of light and colour onto the ceiling, adds to the feeling of bliss. Massages, thermal baths and cosmetic treatments round off the comprehensive wellness programme.
