Three of Nepal's best known routes at once, the Langtang valley, Gosainkunda and the Tamang Heritage trail are closed

A glacial flood came out of Tibet and destroyed the road through Rasuwa district. That closed three of Nepal's best known routes at once, the Langtang valley, Gosainkunda and the Tamang Heritage trail, not because the trails were destroyed but because a single road serves all three. Everest, Annapurna, Kathmandu and Pokhara are unaffected and running normally.

What makes it worth writing about is what has happened since. The old walking route back in has been revived. From Sundarijal through Chisapani and over the Laurebina pass at roughly 4,680 m to Gosainkunda, then down into the Langtang valley. Sixteen days rather than ten, because there is no drive out and the same ground has to be walked back. That approach was standard before the road was built and had been almost forgotten.

I can write this factually and with sources, including the honest gaps: I cannot yet confirm how well supplied the lodges beyond the pass will stay, since everything up there used to arrive by the road that no longer exists.
