The Sacred Enlightenment installation draws visitors into unprecedented moments of light compositions that bring the church interior to life, creating an atmosphere of quiet contemplation and spiritual enlightenment. This is a rare opportunity to discover top-tier glassmaking artistry, crafted with a rich tradition of Czech craftsmanship, under the Bomma brand.
For the first time, Bomma will present at Designblok outside of its main venues, right in the city center. The unique site-specific installation will take place in the Church of Salvator, located just off Pařížská Street on Salvátorská Street, and will only be on display from October 1 to 4. Each evening from 6pm, special light effects will also be featured. The new Flare lighting collection, which debuted in March at the world exhibition in Frankfurt, will be showcased in the Czech Republic for the first time.
"The Flare lighting fixture is inspired by the phenomenon of light itself, craftsmanship, and traditional glassblowing techniques, as well as the need to create a fixture that offers a wide variety of compositions and spatial solutions. It draws from the form and character of a flare, creating light lines and flashes in space," reveals the designer, Kateřina Handlová.
The crystal rods are hand-pulled, making each piece a unique creation with a one-of-a-kind beam of light spiraling through its core. This effect is achieved using traditional glassmaking techniques, where the core of gathered glass is coated with small glass fragments, known as frita, and then re-immersed in molten crystal. The glassblowers stretch this base to the desired length, causing the fragments to extend through the interior of the glass rod. This creates a magical texture—a universe of its own—that illuminates every time the fixture is switched on.
